The unusual heavy rain during this monsoon season affected many parts of Kerala including the premium hillstation Munnar. Heavy rain continuing and most of the major dams in Kerala filled with water and are ready to open their shutters. If Mattuppetty dam opened, the flood will affect Munnar town also. Considering the geographical factors of high ranges, there is much chance for landslide and road block. So the tourists are advised to postpone or cancel their trip. The blooming of Neelakurinji (Strobilanthus kunthiana) also delayed due to heavy rain. Heavy rainfall in Munnar disappointed lot of tourists who eagerly waiting for the blooming of Neelakurinji, which is once in 12 years. But the adverse climate forced to cancel the bookings. The Government of India had declared this natural calamity under Level 3.
